"Common Ground": my little corner of the blogosphere where I talk (a lot-wink) about the things that matter most to me: My relationship with my Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, homeschooling, adoption, homemaking, parenting, "spousing." (yeah, yeah....I know that's not a word.....I made it up-it’s my blog-I can do things like that! Ha!)

Since my life isn’t all that different from yours, hopefully we can find some COMMON GROUND & learn from each other. Please share your thoughts!

Through the Lords’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.

They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness!

Calling All Other Homescholing Mothers.......

Hypothetically speaking.......
*If* you have ever had a lazy student in your class
(not saying we do here…..)
how have you motivated said student to get themselves in gear!

(like I said…..I am not saying we have any lazy students around here…….
but I am asking *just in case*, you understand, right?!?)
P.S. Have I ever mentioned that while this parenting/teaching job of mine is a privilage & an honor.........it is simultanously
EXHAUSTING some days.... :)
(But, there is no better way to be worn out!!!)

Love the graphic!

I don't know how many insights I have, but here are a two ideas you may want to consider:

1. Change it up. Is their current work too easy or too hard for them? I was bored out of my mind with Pre-Algebra. The textbook was dull, the information non-engaging, and I got almost none of it done in a year. We switched to Geometry the next year (with a better text) and I rocked. The same can be true of reading, or science, or spelling... it can be discouraging if you don't feel like you're making progress or it's not challenging.

2. Take a break. Tell your child they don't have to do school... at all. And then give them a couple of months. Children are naturally curious and get bored easily. Plus, if you're using compelling materials, they will be drawn back in. Once they are learning because of their own internal motivation, they should work much harder. And with homeschooling, you can give them that time.

That's all I got off the top of my head.
