"Common Ground": my little corner of the blogosphere where I talk (a lot-wink) about the things that matter most to me: My relationship with my Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, homeschooling, adoption, homemaking, parenting, "spousing." (yeah, yeah....I know that's not a word.....I made it up-it’s my blog-I can do things like that! Ha!)

Since my life isn’t all that different from yours, hopefully we can find some COMMON GROUND & learn from each other. Please share your thoughts!

Through the Lords’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.

Favorite Foto Friday (& breakfast brainstorm, please)

(this week's theme at Kiss the Frog 4 Me was "Pajama Party")
Now, I know that these PJ pics are usually taken after everyone is bathed
& clean & ready to head to bed….

Well, I never seem to have all the kids HAPPY,
bathed, clean & ready for bed all at the same time.

Anyone else have that problem?
(I didn't think so-ha!! ha!!!)

Taking either of the babies out of their baths makes for cranky kiddos around here!!!

SO….my PJ pics were taken one morning this week,
after everyone was fed, which makes for a much more cheerful set of pics…..

Just as an aside-look who's moved on to a "big-girl chair!!!"
Baby brother needed the high-chair, so on she goes!!!
"Hi! My big news is, I started eating 'real' food this week!!!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But, the thought of breakfast gets me to wondering what the rest of you moms out there feed your families in the morning?
It seems to me to be one of the hardest meals for me to fix.
I never have any variety, unless you count Kix, Cheerieos, & Oatmeal Squares as variety
(Come on! It’s variety of cereal, isn’t it?? Ha! Ha!!!)
We home school, so I don’t need it to be fast, necessarily,
but I would like ideas for easy ways to add some diversity.
What do you do?
(Also, if some of you parents who have adopted,
wouldn’t mind giving me some insight into another post I wrote this week,
I would really appreciate it! Thanks!)
We don't do much cold cereal around here, mostly because I burned my kids out getting it for so cheap couponing! Now they won't eat the stuff.
I make vanilla yogurt and they eat big bowls of that with either granola, or diced up fruit. Occasionally I make up muffins/baked oatmeal/granola bars for the week and they will eat on those. The trusty standby is ez 4:9 cinnamon raisin bread toasted with butter.
I have an older set of kids than you, but around here breakfast is completly momless. So it has to be simple, with minimal mess. :)
hope that helps!
it was fun to see you last weekend.
What cute pictures ... amd I understand totally about cranky kids BEFORE breakfast - I am quite cranky without food too! I am not sure what varieties of cereal there is out there - Jaden will not eat cereal. She is an egg person all the way - I make scrambled eggs with milk and I throw some veggies in there (secretly) like spinach and tomatoes ... she has yet to notice ... it is pretty quick and easy too! Well have a great weekend and thanks for sharing!
Rebekah, Jaden & Baby#2 TOO!
I know for me all meals are a pain! Maybe it's because Toby's SO picky. Breakfast is composed of his choice of cereal (2 types), eggs, toast, smoothie, or yogurt parfait that I make him served with a banana as an appetizer. Nothing fancy. At any meal, he eats what of made or he's chosen or he waits for the next meal. His choice. Lili is easier at the moment since she is still eating baby food. Hope all this helps.
Love the pictures. I would rather see happy babies in the morning than cranky but clean at night. Mine are all from the morning too, and honestly some are from the afternoon...some days we just don't get out of them until right before daddy comes home.
We do the basics for breakfast, eggs (scrambled) or cereal, oatmeal or if I make waffle sticks on the weekend I'll freeze them and have them during the week. We get by during the week and have a big breakfast on the weekend.
For breakfast, we've started giving the boys these frozen sandwiches that are english muffins, cheese, eggs, and sausage. My boys (6 and 8) were always saying they were still hungry after 2 bowls of cereal or 4 frozen waffles, so I figured they needed more protein! I'm NOT a morning person at all, so making a big breakfast is something I just don't do. They have enjoyed the breakfast sandwiches.
As far as your other post...honestly, being home just under a month, I haven't really taken the time to process a lot of my feelings and thoughts. Perhaps I'll be able to share more after we've been home longer.
Breakfast is something I need to work on also. We all seem to eat and different times in the morning. And we all want something different to eat. The ideal would be to make a big pot of oatmeal that we all eat together.
We eat lots of cereal. What else: bagels, eggo waffles, toast, yogurt, (Cade is eating trail mix as we speak), I love to throw them ea. a granola bar & banana for on-the-go mornings.
Waffles, cereal/oatmeal are always topped with berries, bananas or craisans. Smoothies are fun for breakfast in the summer.
Too cute! Congrats on the big girl chair graduation! Our favorite breakfasts are toaster waffles or microwave pancakes with fresh fruit! Cereal is good too!
How big Natty is getting! Congrats on reaching another milestone.
As far as breakfast, I am no help. My kids eat cereal and drink a glass of Carnation Instant Breakfast everyday. Lydia is very picky about what cereal she will eat (dry Frosted Mini Wheats) and refuses to sit by anyone eating Cheerios. She thinks Cheerios smell! Kids are so weird. :)
Do your kids like scrambled eggs? We do that a lot.
Also, a friend gave me an easy recipe for making yogurt, so I've been doing that. And we cut up fresh fruit and put granola in it...the kids love this for breakfast.
What about smoothies and a bagel?
Your kiddos are beautiful! Love the breakfast photos! Sounds like we do lots of the same stuff you do...cereal and oatmeal, but we also do bagels with honey and waffles sometimes.
Cute kiddos! Emmi's favorite breakfast is pancakes, so I just use a mix. It's really easy. She also likes eggos, scrambled eggs, cinnamon toast, poptarts, and gogurt.
Adorable pictures...congrats on the big girl chair & real food. They get so big so fast! We do cereal, oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, & scrambled eggs for breakfast. Depending on the mood we are in. Generally both kiddos eat breakfast with no problem so we can a lot of variety and they will try new things. Lunch & dinner not the case. Have a great weekend!
Cute cute PJ pics!!
Before I had kids I would look at the frozen food breakfast section in horror and swear I would never feed that to my kids..... well I have changed quite a few of my prior "beliefs". My kids current favorite is the mini pancakes with butter (you can't beat 37 seconds in the microwave) instant hot cereal and half a banana. Sometimes yogert instead of hot cereal. Its so easy and I hope not to unhealthy I'm sticking with it until one of them complains :)
Have a great weekend!
Great pics! Your children are adorable!
For breakfast we do Mini Wheats, Cherrios, Raisin bread toast, yogurt, some fruit...banana, blueberrier or strawberries. On the days when I don't work John likes sausages and mini-bagel breakfast sandwiches. I get the round microwaveable sausages.
Hi Kim,
Love the cute pics. Ruthie is doing well in her 'big' chair and Natty sounds like he's doing well on his 'real' food too.
We are very boring here with our breakfasts...weetbix (not sure if you have those), yoghurt, banana and sometimes a piece of toast depending how long we've got. Its pretty much the same everyday! Now you've made me think I should get a bit more creative sometimes...I am NOT a morning person so just going on autopilot for breakfast works for me without engaging my brain too much (hehe!).
Have a great weekend,
Anna
Kim & Dave said...
Anna-yes, being on autopilot is MOST of my problem in the AM, too! I don't think my coffee has quite had it's chance to make it through my system!!!
I used to only offer cereal. :) Serve yourself!
These days...
JP makes his own pb&j, I make Phil oatmeal, and now I just have a cup of hot cocoa. I used to make eggs for me.
But I know that isn't so much an option for you with littles.
How about a mega baking day and put LOTS of muffins in the freezer? I'd love a muffin for bfast in the old days! :)
Love the pix and congrats on Natty eating food!! :))
Kim & Dave said...
Joyce-that is such a good idea! Or, I could make pancakes or something!!!
Next week, thanks to all these GREAT ideas, I should have much better breakfasts!
Cute pics Kim!
Not a real mommy yet, but thought I would mention our breakfasts.
We never eat American style cereals. So....
Cooked oatmeal with bananas, lingon berries and whole milk and sucanat, or homemade granola w/honey and whole milk.
Or, eggs, sourdough toast and game sausage.
When I used to eat store bought cereals, my days were difficult to get through. Always hungry and craving stuff. I never felt nourished.
And I always felt sleepy around 2 or 3.
No more refined foods, means no more ups and downs :o)
Paula
Kim & Dave said...
Paula, my friend....what can you tell me about "sucanat?" I have never heard of it!
I put some yogurt in the fridge & bought some cherries for the girls to have tomorrow morning....feeling MUCH better about that b-fast for them!!!!
Unknown said...
Sucanat is dehydrated cane juice. Similiar to Rapadera. Fully unrefined, so no bad things happening to the body!
Both are spendy, but since we are using honey, and we have a few recipes that do not transition well, we use the sucanat.
We get ours at Natural Pantry.
interesting! thanks, paula!!!!
